One of the Vasus was Dhruv. He was a child of the Uttanapada king. He was passed over in favour of his brother Uttam. He was once perched on his father’s lap. He had the right to the throne because he was the oldest son. Out of jealousy, his stepmother took him away from his father’s lap and told him to go.
His mother informed him that only God could grant him such a right since he objected. He was adamant on learning the answers to this query. He visited the forest and met the wise man Narada. Lord Vishnu’s appearance was reported by Narada, who also provided the man a mantra to recite in order to appease Lord Vishnu. He quit eating and drinking as a result of sitting in meditation.
Vishnu finally came in front of him after six months of meditation. He was awarded the title of Dhruv tara, a being that cannot be harmed by anything, thanks to his efforts. Later, this was recognised as the dhanishtha nakshatra. Later, Dhruv was welcomed into his realm, and at the age of six, he was crowned king.
