The Seven Main Chakras and their Functions

What is the order of the 7 Chakras? Do not worry, we’ll give you the best comprehensive guide to learning more about these Chakras. Here are the seven Chakras explained.

What is a Chakra?

First, let’s have a refresher. A Chakra refers to an energy center in your body. These Chakras are associated with different colors, and emotions, and are even connected to different organs and glands of your body. It is worth mentioning that the body has 114 Chakras in total, but we’re going to talk about the seven major Chakras.

Keeping the seven main Chakras balanced means keeping the energy (prana) free-flowing. Meanwhile, major changes in your life such as trauma or stress can lead to imbalance. This is why it’s necessary to talk about the 7 Chakras and their importance. Not only that but we will talk about all the associated functions, colors, elements, and so much more.

7 Main Chakras of the Body

Muladhara Chakra – Root Chakra

When you talk about the 7 chakras in order, the first one is always the Root Chakra. It talks about everything about stability and security for an individual. When your Root Chakra is balanced, it means that you are feeling stable, confident, and secure. On the other hand, an imbalance means feeling threatened and insecure. There is a lack of purpose, and you feel anxious about your position in life.

Root Chakra is located at the base of your spine, and it is represented by the color red and the earth element. It also is associated with the health of bones and lower digestive functions. That’s why some of the indicators of an imbalanced individual are tiredness, lower back pain, and eating disorders.

Swadishthana Chakra – Sacral Chakra

The second out of the seven major chakras is the Sacral Chakra. It talks about your emotions, pleasure, creativity, and desires in life. It’s also indicative of how your emotions relate to others. Notably, the Chakra is associated with your creativity and sexual energy. When your Sacral Chakra is balanced, you are generally in control of your emotions, and you feel vibrant and compassionate. On the other hand, an imbalance in this Chakra means a feeling of frustration and anger. There is a lack of contentment in your current situation.

Sacral Chakra is located at your lower abdomen, and it is represented by the color orange and the water element. It is also associated with urinary problems and lower back pain.

Manipura Chakra – Solar Plexus Chakra

The Solar Plexus Chakra is associated with your self-esteem and self-worth. Generally, if you have a balanced Solar Plexus Chakra, you are energetic and more confident. On the other hand, an imbalance in this Chakra means a feeling of doubt, fear, and shame.

Solar Plexus Chakra is located at your upper abdomen, and it is represented by the color yellow and fire element. It is also associated with upper abdomen functions.

Anahata Chakra – Heart Chakra

The Heart Chakra connects the lower and upper Chakras. Similar to its name, this Chakra governs the feelings of love. It is the ability to show and reciprocate love toward yourself or others. When your Heart Chakra is balanced, you feel more compassionate and empathic. You will feel whole as you are. On the other hand, an imbalance in this Chakra means anxiety, jealousy, and mood problems.

The Heart Chakra is a straightforward name, it is located in the heart region. It is represented by the color green and is associated with the air element. It is also associated with the functioning of the heart, circulatory system, and respiratory system, so an imbalance is associated with heart and respiratory issues.

Vishuddha Chakra – Throat Chakra

When referring to Throat Chakra, as the name implies, it refers to the ability to communicate. When your Throat Chakra is balanced, it means you can openly express your sentiments. On the other hand, an imbalance means you are feeling repressed with emotions and having issues with communicating your true feelings.

The Throat Chakra is straightforward as well, and it is located at the base of the throat. It is represented by the color blue, and its element is sound or music. It is associated with the throat and mouth, so an imbalance could cause problems in the same areas.

Ajna Chakra – Third Eye Chakra

The Third Eye Chakra talks about your ability to see the bigger picture and trust intuition. When your Third Eye Chakra is balanced, you can trust your intuition, you can think clearly, and you are self-aware. On the other hand, an imbalance means you are confused and having issues with your judgment toward situations.

The Third Eye Chakra is located between the eyebrows, it is where the “third eye” lies. It is also represented by the color indigo and the light element. The Chakra is associated with the brain and other primary organs like eyes, ears, and nose. Headaches, nightmares, and eye problems are indicative of an imbalance in this Chakra.

Sahastrara Chakra – Crown Chakra

Lastly, we’ll talk about the Crown Chakra. It talks about your spirituality, wisdom, and enlightenment. When your Crown Chakra is balanced, it means you are open to thoughts and ideas, you feel one with the universe, and you acquire inner peace.

The Crown Chakra is located at the crown of your head, and it is represented by the colors violet or white and the Divine consciousness element. It is also associated with a lack of purpose, identity crisis, and exhaustion.
